After an amazing journey in the beautiful country of Tanzania, the group was lucky enough to have an overnight layover in the culturally rich city of Istanbul, Turkey before our flight home. We spent the afternoon and next morning exploring the magnificent mosques and colorful culture from the city to the Sea of Marmara.

Some of my most vivid memories include being invited off the street into a collector’s Turkish rug shop. The owner of the shop was a heavy set Turkish-born man with a thick accent who invited us to sit and relax while asking us what we would like to drink. After serving us complimentary drinks he joined us and had his assistant dramatically roll out rugs as he described each rugs age, origin, and backgrounds. Although, we didn’t buy any rugs it was a good way to meet new faces and experience the stories of others around the world.
